It’s officially begun, the most wonderful season of picnics.
And although we’ve enjoy the occasional winter picnic on a bench, warming our hands on hot chocolate and a cold sandwich, or a warming soup from a thermos, enjoyed in a mug with mittens adorning our hands, this season definitely brings a more reliable, and perhaps enjoyable, picnic weather.
After a day in London, bringing up with me on the train, a few of my limited edition still-life prints to be hung in my brilliant friend Skye McAlpines’ Tavola pop up shop in Belgravia, I yearned for a simple meal enjoyed on a blanket, under a tree.
(On a side note, the framed prints are available to purchase in her shop only, from now till the 7th of June. I hope some of you may have the chance to swing by as Skye’s Table ware is beautifully made and will brighten any home, and its also a chance to see my still-lifes in person and get of one for your walls.)
I love making, what I would call easy and simple food, full of flavour.
And by that I mean, dishes that are stress free to throw together, and relatively easy to make, whether you have friends drop by unexpectedly, or you’re just cooking for yourself.
With that in mind, I have two brilliant recipes for you, that I hope you will add to your recipe repertoire, as they are two tasty tarts, packed with flavour, one savoury, and one sweet.
They are just as delicious eaten warm, as they are packed in a picnic basket and enjoyed later, on a sunny afternoon sprawled out on a blanket on a green rolling hill.
